Storm Icons

Postby cevon » Fri Oct 23, 2009 9:19 am

So with the storm icons i noticed that the underlay to the icon makes the icon look bigger. Do I have to manually make a bigger background to do that???? Sorry for the question i could play with. but i am at work, and it came to mind. I figured the storm icons are the best for me.... anyone???

hey buddy, I don't think I'm fully understanding the question. when you say background are you referring to the icon underlay ? or the whole screen image ?

you might be able to get away with using one of the standard underlay icons from one of the other devices, for example on the yankees theme I just finished, I used the icon_underlay.png 80x80 from the 8900 set and let theme builder adjust it to fit the 83xx.

Example: the icon underlay here is 80x80 but has been re-sized automatically by theme builder, thus it appears as a rectangle.

I hope that's a bit useful

definetly helpful, thats exactly what i was talking about. And u put the underlay with the icon in the Gimp program, or what ever image software u use right.

You can attach the underlay to the icon with gimp or photoshop or alternatively you can simply put the underlay in theme builder where the red arrows show, which usually saves a ton of time when it comes to making 1 set of icons look different for different themes simply by changing that underlay image :)

Hey Cevon, I just finished off colorizing a set of precision icons in Red If you like 'em feel free to use 'em. You can download the set HERE they are sized at 80x80 so you may want to resize them for the 83xx but half the battle is done lol. anyway hope it might be of use.

And here's a focus icon that should match up exactly if you like.

without really seeing what your seeing its hard for me to say but I would try using a slightly larger tab and focus icon, to get what I think your trying for, although I'm not sure what size is gonna suit you best.

This is just one of the kinda frustrating things that falls a little short in plazmic I'm afraid. :problem:

well looking at this pic -->
Image
you could do 1 of 3 things to get what your looking at.
  1. Make a image that is around 320x40 pixels and use that as your tab/tab focus (test image below) or
  2. When you make your homescreen background build the icon dock image in to it, or
  3. Use composer to make a .svg dock
I would suggest that option #2 will give you nice results and use the least amount of resources, of course if someone wants to change that homescreen wallpaper, they'd lose that dock, but if that's not an issue, that's what I would probably do. If you do wanna be able to change wallpapers and not lose your dock, go with option #1
Good luck buddy :)

nice, i will def have to try it!!!! thx Gecko, i am glad i could find a pic for u. That is the look i am going for, except without the standard stormlike banner stuff.
-now do u think it will wk also in the main menu screen. Using the 320 x 40 tab,i know it wont make it one big bar behind the icons but it will give the effect i am looking for..... i hope,
Anyways thx dude!!!!

ioh ya also, the red color u see in the pic in the dock area ends up being the tab focus not just the tab. So when u are not on an icon its black, but when u focus on an icon it is a red focus with a quick flash.

sorry, this had kinda slipped by me here... I think you'll probably have to use some different graphics for the main menu underlay and focus icons, sometimes getting the right look comes down to trail and error, How's it coming for you Cevon?
