Today Research In Motion released a new application which allows BlackBerry users to easily create and customize their own BBM avatar. Available in either Girl or Guy editions, Avatar Builder lets you create a unique BBM avatar by customizing facial features, hair styles, colors, clothes and accessories. Once you’ve created your avatar you can easily save it to your device, share it with your friends or set it as your personal BlackBerry Messenger image. Avatar Builder is a nice free app from RIM and makes for a great addition to BBM.

BlackBerry Theme Studio 6 Released

BlackBerry Theme Studio 6 has an official release. This latest incarnation of BlackBerry’s free suite of design tools, which includes BlackBerry Theme Builder and BlackBerry Composer was made available earlier this week after several months of Beta testing. Those who downloaded the Theme Studio 6 Beta releases will find the same highly intuitive user interface introduced in those versions, which allowed theme developers to edit graphics, icons and backgrounds quicker and easier than ever before. Along with a complete overhaul of the UI, Theme Studio 6 incorporates a new Background Wizard allowing for easy customization of dynamic wallpapers with options for changing images based on date and/or time. New and extended batch processing capabilities along with greater compatibility with other design tools also contribute to a better user experience and faster theme building. Perhaps best of all Theme Studio 6 now covers all BlackBerry devices ranging from the 9800 Torch on down to the 8100 Pearl and with options to export every OS from 4.5 on up, we finally can bid a fond farewell to our old Theme Studio 5 software. This is hands down the best version of BlackBerry Theme Studio to date! Thank you BlackBerry for some great free software, now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to build a theme.

BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife, Version 1.9

BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife or BBSAK as it’s friends know it, has been updated to version 1.9. This latest version introduces a couple of small bug fixes and adds support for 8 different languages including English, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, and Spanish. If you are unfamiliar with BBSAK, it is a 3rd party bit of software that allows you to load a new operating system, back-up 3rd party apps, modify, install and remove .cod and .jad files, take device screenshots or even wipe and/or restore your device to a factory default state. And while most of us will be satisfied to use BlackBerry’s official software, BlackBerry Desktop Manager for these task, those of us who change and/or test different operating systems quite often will find BBSAK to be a light-weight and very useful tool.

Facebook Version 1.9.0.20 Now Available in BlackBerry App World

Facebook’s BlackBerry app received an update today, bringing the popular social networking application to version 1.9.0.20. Facebook’s on-device app allows users to send messages, poke friends, write wall post and upload photos. Long time users of the app can look forward to several new features and enhanced functionality. New features include support for Facebook Places, a dedicated user inbox and faster navigation with the inclusion of Facebook search. COD: Black Ops by Tony Terry

Welcome back BlackBerry fans. If you have visited BlackBerryVoodoo before you may already be aware that several of us around here are not just BlackBerry junkies and theme developers, many of us are also hopelessly addicted gamers… I know, I know, speak for myself… Now, as a gamer, I personally am a big fan of FPS style games and I’ve literally been counting down the days until the November 9th release of Call of Duty: Black Ops, so when our buddy Tony Terry dropped in last month to post his Black Ops theme in the forum I thought, what could be better for our November Theme of the Month? So here we are and as for the theme, what can I say… it’s sweet! It has some great looking COD wallpapers, a full set of OS6 icons, hidden dock/today areas, custom battery and signal meters and more. It’s a whole lot of fun and it’s Free! If your a fan of COD, first person shooter games or just love rocking a sweet free theme on your BlackBerry, hop on over to the’ forum and grab yourself a copy. Press Release: RIM Launches BlackBerry Advertising Service

More good news for BlackBerry app developers today as RIM has launched a new advertising service giving developers the ability to incorporate advertisements from several different advertising networks directly into their applications with only a few lines of code. Through a single relationship with RIM, a developer can access RIM’s many advertising network partners and can select which networks will get their inventory. Agencies and advertisers will be able to work with the advertising networks they know all while maintaining creative control over their ads. Developers can expect an industry standard of 60 percent of the advertising revenue earned. Some of the advertising networks available as of launch include: Amobee, Jumptap, Lat49, Millennial Media and Mojiva, with several more advertisers expected to join the service in coming months.

New service gives developers the ability to add advertisements from a large number of advertising networks in their applications, with only a few lines of code

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA–(Marketwire – Sept. 27, 2010) – BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) today launched its advertising service for the BlackBerry® Application Platform. The BlackBerry Advertising Service helps developers integrate advertising in their BlackBerry® smartphone applications quickly and easily, while also allowing advertisers, agencies and brands to work with a broad selection of advertising networks.

The BlackBerry Advertising Service offers developers a quick and easy way to integrate advertising in their applications. With just a few lines of code, developers can include advertising in applications that are relevant to their users and tie into core BlackBerry smartphone features. RIM is enabling new monetization opportunities for BlackBerry developers by simplifying the integration of advertising both on the development side and on the commercial side. Through a single relationship with RIM, a developer has access to RIM’s many advertising network partners and can select which networks will get their inventory. Agencies and advertisers will be able to work with the advertising networks they know, leveraging existing relationships, while maintaining control of their creative processes. Under the program, developers will receive an industry standard 60 percent of the advertising revenue.

The BlackBerry Advertising Service includes three key components: a simple-to-integrate SDK, a mediation platform and a growing slate of advertising networks.

The SDK allows developers to support both standardized MMA advertisements and HTML-5 Rich Media, as well as ads that have one-click in-application access to core BlackBerry applications, such as Contacts, Calendar, the Media Player and BlackBerry App World™.

The mediation platform is a single console for developers to manage their ad allocations and access analytics, tracking and reporting features, which provide immediate feedback on ad metrics including fill rates, ad performance and earnings. The mediation platform and SDK is also open to many of the leading independent measurement and analytics solutions for both developers and advertisers.

At launch, the BlackBerry Advertising Service will offer developers and advertisers the opportunity to work with many advertising networks including Amobee, Jumptap, Lat49, Millennial Media and Mojiva. Advertising networks such as Buzzcity, NavTeq, Placecast, Sympatico, Transpera, Where and xAD, as well as rich media advertising platform Medialets, are expected to join the service in the coming months.
