BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife (BBSAK) Version 1.8

BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife

Some good news today for BlackBerry users and fans of free software. BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife or BBSAK as it’s more widely known has recently been been updated to version 1.8.0 What is BBSAK you ask ?  BBSAK is a light weight and handy desktop utility that will allow you to wipe a ‘bricked’ device, reset your BlackBerry to it’s factory state,  backup and/or restore 3rd party apps, load an operating system, take screenshots of your device and more. I’ve personally used several of the last incarnations of BBSAK and though it’s still labeled as ‘beta’ software it has always preformed flawlessly for me. Check out the latest features of BBSAK below and follow the link to download.

Features:

• Redesigned code for better performance.
• New Javaloader for OS 6.0 compatibility.
• Wipe Blackberry leaving a 507 error.
• Reset Blackberry to factory state removing any IT Policy.
• Take Screenshots of your Blackberry (Screenshots stored in My Pictures\BBScreenies now)
• Auto-Detects if phone is plugged in first.
• Displays PIN so you know your connected.
• Will not let you do any actions until phone detected.
• Load OS will auto delete Vendor.xml and start Loader.exe. (BBDM is needed for this)
• Backup 3rd Party Apps.
• Restore 3rd Party Apps.

I need to switch from a Blackberry 8530 to another 8530 (which I purchased privately) because some of my keys are unresponsive and other keys do the wrong things (for example, by End key will type “m”s & “n”s). I’m told that the computer backup will only transfer some things and that I need Blackberry Swiss Army Knife (BBSAK) in order to back up 3rd party apps and all my data. I purchased the no nag version via Paypal but now can’t get BBSAK to download. I wouldn’t think just switching to an identical phone should be such a hassle. Any advice???

  • Hi Loretta, you may have some luck with the latest version of BlackBerry desktop manager. The latest releases have definitely improved over the past year or so here. You can find the latest releases of BB desktop manager here >> http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/ .
As for trouble with the BBSAK software download you should contact the developer, I’m sure they can help get you sorted out. You can contact them here >> http://bbsak.org/contact.php .
Best of luck with the update. Feel free to drop by our forums here if you find you need a bit more help.
