Since the beginning of this year we hardcore BlackBerry enthusiast and developers have all been relentlessly teased with many rumors, fake images and spotty details regarding the highly anticipated release of the 6.0 operating system and the latest generation BlackBerry devices. Well today a lot of speculation can be put down as we get our first good look at OS 6.0 courtesy of an anonymous AT&T source and Boy Genius Report.

Here are some highlights below:

  • A new WebKit browser, skinned by RIM which will include tabbed browsing, favorites and multitouch !
  • Multitouch functionality will work through-out the OS even incorporating a ‘pinch to zoom’ feature.
  • Kinetic scrolling with rubberbanding. Making the experience more fluid while scrolling through lists, web pages, emails, ect.
  • An improved media player with album art.
  • An Upgraded inbox with larger icons and even built in RSS feeds !
  • Completely customizable home screen with ‘Pages’ which according to BGR: “You can have your applications on the main page, then slide left or right to another page with different applications and browse that way. In the homescreen screenshot above, you’ll see a sliding field towards the bottom, and you can slide that up, and reveal the first page of applications, and you can then slide that to show the different groups which correspond to the different homescreen page. Favorites, all, home, etc.”
  • Tap and Hold pop-up windows on touchscreen devices!

This should keep all of us enthusiast and developers salivating for the next couple of months as we look for a likely late June or July release of the next generation of BlackBerry devices. Make sure to check out the rest of the specs and more pics over at BoyGeniusReport
