This latest update which is defined in the release notes as a ‘bug squashing’ release, fixes several small but annoying issues found in the last version. Check out the fixes below.
Fixed empty title issue for those blogs with “Site Title” field set to empty value.
Fixed an issue on the comments screen that doesn’t permit editing of comments with weird characters within URL or e-mail field.

Earlier this month in a post over at Inside BlackBerry Mr. Mike Lazaridis, Co-CEO of Research In Motion, was noted to comment about the upcoming availability of BlackBerry 6 for several current 5.0 devices, including the Pearl 3G, Bold 9650 and Bold 9700. The news of RIM’s newest operating system finding it’s way to these devices was widely embraced by current BlackBerry users, especially those who have only recently picked up one of these phones and did not wish to be left holding a new device with a soon to be outdated OS. Since this announcement there has been some debate through-out the community over how well this new operating system will function on devices with only 256 MB of on board memory (Pearl 3G, Bold 9700) as BlackBerry 6 itself is reported to take up around 190 MB of space on these non touchscreen devices. To help give us all a better idea of what type of functionality we can expect to see when we finally get to upgrade our Beloved Bold’s to OS 6, Boy Genius Report has been good enough to share a video walk-through of OS 6, albeit a beta version, running on a Bold 9700. As you can see in the video above, all of the new features of OS 6 are intact, WebKit browser, universal search, GPS photo tagging, ect. and BGR reports a quick boot time of around one minute as well as a better overall BlackBerry 6 experience when compared to BB 6 on the 9800 Torch. This looks to be very good news for many Bold users out there and I expect to see similar results for the Pearl 3G. With any luck we should start to see BlackBerry 6 officially roll out for these current devices within the next two months, of course we will keep you updated with information and downloads as they become available.
Just a few short weeks back RIM had offered up a Beta version of BlackBerry App World to it’s Beta Zone testers. Well starting today we can all get in on this new software, as RIM has officially released App World 2.0 (v2.0.0.36) This new version of the on device app store steps up the application in almost every way. An improved UI with much cleaner graphics, faster speeds and the introduction of several new features such as new payment options which will allow users to purchase apps via PayPal, credit card or through carrier billing (for various carriers), an improved search including QR barcode scanning and the addition of BlackBerry ID which will provide customers with a device-independent user identification that will allow for the use of the new payment options as well as allowing users to seamlessly transfer their personal library of free and purchased apps when they switch to a new BlackBerry smartphone. You can download this new version of BlackBerry App World by visiting http://www.blackberry.com/appworld via your BlackBerry Browser or by heading over to BlackBerry’s official site

BlackBerry Torch 9800 Screen Protectors In Stock Now!
This month we saw the release of RIM’s first true touchscreen device the BlackBerry Torch 9800. And while many of us are still waiting for the Torch to make it’s way to our own carriers, I know many AT&T customers around the US have already started putting a ton of miles on their shiny new touchscreens. If your one of these new 9800 users and have been putting your BlackBerry to the daily grind you may be considering picking up a screen protector to help keep your device scratch free and looking as good as the day you first un-boxed it. As you may be aware there are more than just a few company’s out there manufacturing screen protectors for mobile devices and I’ve personally used several of the major brands over the years, but the one I’ve been the most impressed with and can feel good about recommending to my fellow BlackBerry enthusiast here at BBV comes from Zagg, makers of the invisibleSHIELD line of screen and device protectors.
The invisibleSHIELD is a custom-cut Full Body Shield made from a unique material that was originally created for the military to protect the leading edges of helicopter blades and is now available for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 series. The invisibleSHIELD offers protection for your entire device and ensures your BlackBerry will always look like it did the day you bought it.
If you are not completely satisfied with the coverage of the invisibleSHIELD, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund. And if the invisibleSHIELD ever scratches, Zagg will replace it for free, for life! So if your looking for the best scratch protection available for your BlackBerry (or many other devices), head on over to Zagg and see what they can do for you. We are proud to endorse the fine products available from Zagg here at BBV.
The Facebook app for BlackBerry devices has been updated to version 1.8.0.49. This free application allows you to send messages, poke friends, write on wall post, invite friends and upload photos to your Facebook account. This maintenance release brings a bit more speed to the app and is worth grabbing especially if your a Facebook junkie.
BlackBerry Messenger has received an update bringing the current version to 5.0.1.38. While this latest release does not bring any new functionality to BBM, I have noticed quite an improvement to the overall speed and responsiveness of the software, especially on my 8520 Curve. You can of course find this updated version of BBM through the BlackBerry App World on your device or you can find a list of OTA downloads here. Go grab this new BBM version right away, it is definitely worth the quick update process, Enjoy.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 6.0 has been released for download. This version for PC users, (Mac version should release very soon) has been nicely redesigned with a simpler and cleaner user interface and includes several new features which among other things, upgrade the BlackBerry Media Sync tool and bring support to the new 9800 Torch and 9300 Curve devices. Head on over to BlackBerry’s official site to grab this shinny new software.
This last week has been filled to brim with great news flooding the front pages of the BlackBerry blogosphere. The top headlines this week of course centering around the official release of the new BlackBerry 9800 Torch and it’s new operating system, BlackBerry 6.
With plenty of tidbits of information regarding BlackBerry 6 circulating the net over the last several months, we BB junkies have had ample time to speculate over which (if any) of RIM’s current devices would be eligible to run this new operating system. Today I’m happy to report that there is finally a definitive answer to this debate and it comes straight from the man himself, Mike Lazaridis. In his most recent post over at Inside BlackBerry, (announcing the Torch 9800) Mr. Lazaridis took the time to comment on the status of some of the current BlackBerry devices already in use.
“…I know many of you are also wondering about support for existing BlackBerry smartphones. I am happy to report that BlackBerry 6 will be available in the months ahead (pending carrier certifications) on some of our leading smartphones, including the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100, BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Bold 9700.”
This is certainly good news for many of us out there and perhaps a little disappointing to others, however the fact that we will indeed see BlackBerry 6 on some of these current devices is a promising sign that there could be more devices joining this list in the future. We’ll keep you posted.
